Overheard a guy at the comic shop say he only reads DC because Marvel kills too many characters

He had a point after I counted 8 major deaths in the last 3 Marvel events I finished, but then I realized Blackest Night was basically a zombie parade of dead DC heroes so nobody gets to play the moral high ground here.

Ha, I used to be the guy saying Marvel was too grim with all the death, but then I actually read Blackest Night and realized DC was doing the same thing just with more glowing rings. Honestly seeing Jason Todd come back as a zombie Red Hood kind of made me stop pointing fingers at either side. Your mileage may vary but I think both companies just love killing characters to sell the next big crossover.

A buddy of mine, let's call him Dave, spent years defending DC for not killing off characters as casually as Marvel. Then he picked up that Blackest Night collection and got real quiet around issue three. He texted me at 2 AM after reading the Jason Todd zombie thing, and he just said "I owe Marvel an apology." @mark49 you're spot on, they both just rotate the same death card for hype. These companies treat character deaths like a season finale cliffhanger with a built-in undo button.
