Just realized I've read 12 different Batman origins this week...

I was sorting my pull list and counted how many #1 issues I've picked up this month and it hit me that I've read the same basic origin story over and over. Has anyone else ever added up a random number from their collection like that?

Used to think renumbering was just a cash grab but this actually changed my mind. Picked up the new Detective Comics #27 recently and realized I've got like 4 different versions of the Wayne murder scene just from this year alone. Never noticed how much redundancy builds up until you stack the actual issues side by side. Batman #1, Batman #608, Zero Year, Year One they all hit the same beats but with different art. Makes you wonder how many times we've paid for the same story in different covers.

But doesn't a clean break also let them bury the convoluted storylines nobody wants to revisit?
