I finally argued with a guy at the shop about variant covers

He said variants are just cash grabs and I was defending them until he showed me his bin of 50+ unsold variants from 5 years ago that nobody wanted, and now I dont know how to feel about buying that $30 foil cover next week.

I mean, I had almost this exact same conversation with a buddy who runs a shop. He pulled out a long box of 2018 variants that are still sitting at cover price, and it made me rethink things. My rule now is I only buy a variant if I actually like the art more than the main cover, not because it feels limited or rare. That $30 foil has to really hit for me, otherwise I'll just wait and grab it for ten bucks on the secondary market a few months later.
