Hit 500 issues in my longbox and it messed with my head

I counted my longboxes last night because I needed to reorganize after a shelf collapse. Somehow I crossed 500 individual comics, mostly from dollar bins and flea markets. That number felt huge to me because I started collecting 3 years ago with just 12 issues from a yard sale in Phoenix. I never planned to go past the stuff I actually liked reading, but now half the boxes are filler I grabbed for the sake of completeness. It made me realize I'm less of a fan and more of a hoarder with a spreadsheet. Anyone else hit a random milestone that made them question their whole collecting style?

That number sneaks up on you, doesnt it? Same thing happened to me around issue 300 and I had to sit down and stare at my boxes for a solid hour. The dollar bin pull is REAL, you grab one issue to complete a run and suddenly you own seventeen copies of some random 90s comic you never even opened. What snapped me out of it was realizing I could name maybe half my collection without looking at the spreadsheet. Those filler books are just dead weight taking up space, and honestly they made me enjoy the good stuff less because I felt obligated to sort and store all that junk. You aint a hoarder, you just got carried away, which is way easier to fix than you think. Maybe pull out the 50 you actually love and see how THAT feels before you decide anything drastic.
