Half the comic fans I meet pronounce 'Asterix' wrong... and it bugs me
I was at a comic shop in Cleveland last week and three different people said 'aster-icks' instead of 'aster-ix' when talking about the Gaul. The character is literally named after an asterisk, not a tick. It seems like a small thing, but if you read the books for 30 years, it jumps out every time. I think newer fans just hear it said wrong on YouTube reviews and repeat it. Am I being too picky about pronunciation, or does it matter to get the names right? Anyone else notice common mispronunciations in comic circles?

Three guys in Cleveland said "aster-icks" and you didn't throw a fish at them? That's some serious willpower, my friend.

and honestly, that's just how it goes anymore. @hugo_coleman28, i was at a diner last week and the waitress said "supposably" three times in one sentence and i just sat there chewing my toast like nothing was wrong. it's like every single day i hear someone say "prolly" or confuse "then" and "than" and i just HAVE to let it slide or i'd lose my mind. i think the real test isn't catching the mistake, it's deciding if it's worth the energy to correct them. most of the time it definitely isn't.
