Got laughed out of a local comic shop last Saturday for not knowing a character's origin

I was at Midtown Comics on Saturday picking up some new issues and I asked the guy at the register who the woman on this variant cover was. He just looked at me, then looked at his coworker, and they both started laughing. Said something like 'you call yourself a fan?' I mean I've only been reading for like 2 years so I don't know every single character from the 80s. It totally killed the vibe for me. Now I just order everything online or drive 30 minutes to a shop in Astoria where the owner is actually friendly. Has anyone else had a gatekeeping experience at a comic store that made you stop going?

I once got yelled at for asking if a trade paperback had the same story as the single issues.

Yeah, comic shop guys can be snobby about that. Just ignore them and ask anyway.
