Found a cheaper way to store my single issues than those pricey bags and boards

I was at a local comic shop in Portland last month and the owner showed me how he uses these comic-sized clear polypropylene sleeves he orders in bulk from a packaging supply place. He said he pays about 3 cents per sleeve versus the 12 cents for branded bags at the shop. I tried it with 50 books from my longbox and they fit perfect. Has anyone else found bulk storage hacks that save money?

My buddy in Seattle started using the plastic sleeves that come wrapped around newspapers during delivery. He saves them from his neighbor's recycling bin and cuts them down to fit. Theyre a little cloudy but totally fine for longbox stuff that's not high grade. I tried it with some 90s Image books and it worked okay but the sizing is hit or miss. He also uses those little silica gel packets from beef jerky to keep moisture out of his short boxes which I thought was pretty clever.

Cutting up newspaper sleeves from recycling bins sounds like a solid way to save cash, just hope he's not storing anything that needs to stay pristine because cloudy plastic and beef jerky silica packets scream "budget preservation." Next he'll be using old pizza boxes for backing boards and calling it vintage storage.
