Why does nobody talk about how fast espresso machine steam wands fail

I had my Breville machine for about 2 years and it worked fine until last Tuesday when the steam wand just stopped producing pressure. I was trying to texture milk for my morning latte and got nothing but hot water dribbling out. Tried descaling it 3 times with the special solution and even took the tip off to clean it with a pin. After about an hour of messing with it I realized the internal valve was probably shot and it would cost more to fix than the machine is worth. So now I'm stuck using a cheap battery powered frother that makes bubbly mess instead of actual microfoam. Has anyone else dealt with a mid range espresso machine giving out way sooner than you expected?
