Unpopular opinion: your $600 espresso machine is useless if your grinder cost $40
Had the worst coffee week of my life and it was all my own fault. My grinder died on a Monday, so I ran to a big box place and grabbed a $40 blade grinder to get by. Figured how bad could it be. By Wednesday I had wasted almost a full pound of beans chasing a decent shot, and every cup tasted like burnt cardboard water. My buddy swung by Saturday with his $200 burr grinder and pulled one shot on my same machine, and it was night and day. Same beans, same water, same me. He just laughed and said the grinder does the actual work. I always thought people were being snobs about this. I was wrong. So what is the cheapest burr grinder you guys would actually trust, because I am not dropping $700 right now.
