The five dollar grinder I swore by for 2 years ruined every batch I made
I used a blade grinder from a thrift store for two years thinking it was fine. Then a buddy let me use his Baratza Encore for a week and I finally tasted what coffee is supposed to be. My old grinder was burning the beans unevenly and turning everything bitter. Has anyone else had a similar wake up call with equipment they thought was good enough?

Calling a blade grinder "good enough" is like saying a shovel is good enough for digging a pool.

Oh man, I felt that in my soul lol. I started out with a cheap blade grinder thinking I was saving money, and looking back I was just making excuses for bad coffee every morning. It got the job done in the sense that the beans were technically broken up, but that's about all you could say for it. The uneven grounds meant my French press was always a muddy mess or way too bitter. I finally got a budget burr grinder last year and honestly it's like a whole different world. You're not wrong at all, that shovel analogy is way too accurate for comfort.
