Shoutout to the barista who saw my latte art fail in slow motion
Was at a busy coffee shop in Portland last Saturday, trying to pour a rosetta into my oat milk latte and the whole thing just turned into a brown blob with no definition. I sat there staring at it for a solid 10 seconds while the barista next to me gave a pity laugh. Anyone else ever ruin a perfectly good shot of espresso with a pour that looked like abstract mud?

...and the thing is, the barista probably knew exactly how you felt because they've done the same thing a hundred times themselves. That pity laugh was more like a "been there, done that" kind of moment. I remember watching one of my favorite baristas at a little spot in Seattle try to pour a swan and it just collapsed into a weird blob that looked more like a chicken than anything else. She laughed it off and handed it to the customer anyway, who actually ended up loving it. It's funny how those ugly pours sometimes taste just as good as the pretty ones, and you get a story out of it too.
