Shoutout to the barista at that place on 4th Street who said my usual order was masking the bean's flavor

I was getting my usual triple-shot vanilla latte last Tuesday and she asked if I'd ever tried that Ethiopian roast black, which made me realize I'd been paying for good coffee just to cover it up with sugar and milk for like... three years.

Oof, I feel that so hard. I did the same thing for ages (just a ton of cream and sugar). That barista did you a solid.

My old roommate used to drink coffee that was basically hot milk with a brown tint. He'd put in four sugars and fill the cup halfway with cream. Took him years to try it black, and now he's a total snob about light roast. The_avery, it's a real journey.
