My old french press taught me a lesson last week
I've been using the same french press for maybe 12 years now, a basic Bodum. Last week I tried a friend's new one with a double mesh filter and the coffee came out way cleaner than mine. Took it apart when I got home and realized my mesh was all bent and letting sludge through for who knows how long. I never even thought to check it, just figured coffee grit was normal. Got a replacement screen online for $8 and it's like a whole new brewer now. Anybody else had a worn out part mess with their coffee for way too long before noticing?

12 years with a bent screen and you just thought sludge was part of the experience? That's both tragic and hilarious.

My buddy had the same thing with his drip coffee maker. Used it for years thinking the bitter taste was just how coffee was, then found out the heating element was all crusted over. He got a new one for $20 and nearly cried at how good normal coffee actually tastes.
