My French press was making muddy coffee for months until I tried the Hoffmann method.
I kept getting sludge at the bottom of my cup no matter what grind I used. Followed that James Hoffmann technique with the spoon trick and my morning brew is actually clear now. Anyone else deal with gritty coffee before trying that?

Oh HOLD on, I gotta jump in here. The waiting is definitely a HUGE part of it, but the spoon trick is NOT just about breaking the crust. See, that spoon scrape along the sides right after you pour the water actually stirs up the grinds that are stuck to the glass walls. If you skip that step, a bunch of those bigger bits never get fully submerged and they just float there not extracting properly. Then when you press, those loose bits get mixed in with the nice clean brew. I did it wrong for like a week before I watched his video again and realized I was being lazy with the spoon part. You gotta do BOTH the spoon swirl AND the four minute wait, not just one or the other.

Wait, isn't the spoon trick actually part of the French press technique from Hoffmann? I thought the big thing was letting it sit longer before pressing to let the fines settle. The spoon thing helps break the crust but the real magic is just waiting those four extra minutes.
