Barista at that local shop taught me a pour over trick I use every day now

There's this small coffee spot near my office on 12th Street. The barista there, a older guy named Rick, saw me struggling with my pour over at home. He told me to pour in a spiral pattern that starts from the center and works out, not just dump all the water in one spot. Took maybe 30 seconds to show me. Now my brews taste way smoother and I don't get that bitter bite anymore. Has anyone else had a random stranger fix their coffee routine?
