Used to swear by hostel dorms until a 4am snorer broke me in Barcelona
I always thought hostels were the way to go for saving money on trips. But last month in Barcelona I shared a 6-bed dorm with a guy who snored like a lawnmower. Finally tried a budget hotel near the Sagrada Familia for 45 euros a night and got actual sleep. Has anyone else found that paying a little more for a private room is worth it for sanity?

The real wild card" is a good way to put it, but honestly I think the 5am alarm sleeper is way worse than the snorer. At least the snorer is a steady noise you can kind of tune out with earplugs. That alarm going off for a full 15 minutes is a special kind of torture that none of my earplug brands can fix.

Broke me" - oh I felt that in my soul. The lawnmower guy is a classic, but the real wild card nobody talks about is the hostel guest who sets an alarm for 5am then lets it ring for 15 minutes while they slowly wake up. I've started taking earplugs AND noise cancelling headphones to hostels now, plus a sleep mask. It's like packing a tiny battle kit just to get some rest.
