Used to book hotels through third-party sites until I got stuck in a monsoon in Bangkok and the front desk said my reservation didn't exist
That disaster taught me to always book direct with the hotel after I spent 3 hours on hold with a call center in Manila trying to fix something the hotel could've handled in 2 minutes, has anyone else had a third-party site screw them over at the worst possible time?

Same thing happened to me in Mexico. Never again.

Oh man, Mexico too?! That's exactly the kind of nightmare I'm talking about. You think you're all set, you show up tired and ready to crash, and bam, no room. It's like these third-party sites just take your money and cross their fingers that everything works out. I swear, after that Bangkok thing I stopped trusting any middleman for travel stuff. Direct booking might cost a few bucks more sometimes, but the peace of mind is totally worth it when you're stuck in a foreign country.
