The guy at the hostel desk in Lisbon asked why I book flights home before I pick the dates
I was checking out of a hostel in Lisbon last month and the front desk guy saw my return flight on my phone and asked why I lock it in so early. He said he waits until two weeks out and books whatever is cheapest, then plans the trip around that city, and he's been doing it for six years on a backpacker budget. I always did it backwards, picking the place first and eating whatever the flight cost. His way means you might land somewhere you didn't plan on, but the money you keep pays for an extra week. Has anyone else tried picking the flight first and just going where it's cheap?
