That hostal in Barcelona with the fake cheap price tag
Booked this place outside Barcelona city center for 18 euros a night. Thought I found a steal. Got there and the bed was basically a mattress on cinder blocks and the 'free breakfast' was a stale bread roll and instant coffee. Spent an extra 7 euros each morning on real food plus 5 euros a day on metro fare to get anywhere. What are your go to clues a cheap listing is actually a trap?

Did you really think an 18 euro room in a city like Barcelona was going to be decent? That's less than what a hostel dorm usually costs in a smaller town. Everyone knows those prices are either a remote location scam or a total dive. You probably should have checked the address on a map and looked at recent photos of the breakfast online first.

Yeah, the breakfast photos alone should've been a red flag. I booked a cheap spot in Rome once and the "continental breakfast" was just a stale croissant and a coffee machine that was out of order. Always zoom in on the street view too, saved me from booking a room that was basically in an alley.
