That $89 night train pass in Japan beat five separate hotel nights

I spent 12 days hopping between Osaka, Kyoto, and Hiroshima last fall. Instead of booking hotels, I paid 89 bucks for a Seishun 18 train pass and rode overnight local trains. Yeah it took way longer than the bullet train, but each ride meant zero lodging costs. Woke up stiff a couple times, but I dropped maybe 400 total on food and transport for the whole trip. Anyone else tried sleeping on trains to skip hostels, or is that too rough for you?

Hell yeah! Did the same last year. Woke up sore but saved a ton.
