That $3 hostel in Belgrade taught me a hard lesson about bed bugs after I woke up with bites on my arms

I realized I was always picking the absolute cheapest place without checking recent reviews for bug reports, and now I always filter for hostels rated 8.5 or higher even if it costs a few bucks more, has anyone else had a similar issue with bargain accommodations ruining a trip?
