Stumbled on a fact about hostel kitchens that blew my mind

I was reading a budget travel blog last night and saw one stat that hostel kitchens actually save the average traveler around $15 a day on food. That adds up to like $450 over a month... I never really thought about it before. Do you guys plan your meals around shared kitchen access or just eat out?

Honestly I always thought hostel kitchens were kinda gross and not worth the hassle but man that math is hard to argue with. $450 a month is basically a flight to another country so yeah I guess I'm gonna start planning my meals around them now.

@joseph_baker had the right idea, $450 is a whole other trip. Read a blog once where someone said they saved enough in hostel kitchen meals to afford a week in Thailand. Seems worth the wash-and-wear dishes.
