Rant: the hostel owner in Prague who charged me for a towel I never took

I stayed at a place near the old town square in Prague last August, and when I checked out the guy at the front desk insisted I owed 5 euros for a missing towel. I told him I never even used the towel service, but he just pointed at a faded sign on the wall and wouldn't budge. Finally paid it just to get my passport back, but it left a bad taste. Has anyone else had hostels nickel and dime you like that over nothing?
