I lost $80 on a 'skip the line' ticket that was a total scam

Last month in Rome, I was tired and bought a 'fast track' ticket for the Colosseum from a guy with a badge outside. It cost me 80 euros extra. Turns out it was just a regular ticket you could get online for the base price, and I still had to wait in the main security line for over an hour. The badge was fake and the official site warns about these sellers. I felt so dumb for not checking properly when I was jet-lagged. Has anyone else fallen for one of these street ticket scams in a big city?
