I booked a 'cheap' hotel in Prague without checking the neighborhood map first.
It was $30 a night, but it was a 45 minute walk from the main train station with my backpack, so I ended up spending over $60 on cabs just getting to and from it. Has anyone else lost money by not looking at a place's real location?

That "45 minute walk from the main train station" is the real cost. I used to just sort by price, but one trip like that taught me to check the map first every single time.

How much is your time worth? That cheap rate can vanish fast when you factor in travel costs and hassle. Always check the map before you book.
