Hostels used to scare me until I did the math on Tokyo
I always thought hostels were just for college kids or backpackers with no standards. Then I looked up Shinjuku hotels for a 5 night trip and the cheapest was $180 a night. I found a highly rated hostel near a train station for $35 a night with free breakfast and a shared kitchen. That math is just too hard to ignore even for a private room snob like me. Has anyone here stayed at a hostel in Japan that actually felt clean and quiet?

And I've got a NOSE for a good deal from years of sniffing out cheap drinks, so trust me, $35 for a Tokyo bed is basically finding a clean toilet in a gas station bathroom.
