Hostel roommate in Lisbon said he paid $11 a night by booking the day before, not months ahead
I always thought you had to book flights and rooms way in advance to get the cheap rates, so I plan trips like 4 months out. Met this guy at my hostel in Lisbon who was paying almost half what I paid, and he said he just waits until 24 to 48 hours before and grabs whatever places drop their prices to fill beds. I tried it for my last two nights in Porto and got a room for $19 a night instead of the $45 I almost booked. It feels risky for a big trip but for solo travel with a flexible plan it worked fine. Has anyone else done this last minute thing or does it blow up on you sometimes?
