Ditched my $80 hostel habit for a $12 hammock setup in Colombia

Used to blow my daily budget on private rooms in Medellin until last month when I hung a mosquito net between two trees in a finca and slept better for a third of the cost, does anyone else swear by ultralight camping gear for city travel?

Abby that bivy sack trick is sick but just a heads up bed bugs can still get through the mesh if you're leaning against a wall. Hammock life is solid though, a tarp setup weighs nothing and saves bank.

Honestly read a blog once where a guy used a bivy sack in hostels to avoid bed bugs and it sounded genius. Sleeping under the stars in a cheap hammock beats some sweaty dorm room for sure. Ngl it's smart to mix camping gear with city travel saves money and hassle.
