Bought a $7 plastic poncho in Rome and it outlasted my $90 rain jacket
I was in Rome last October and got caught in a downpour near the Colosseum, so I grabbed a cheap 7 euro poncho from a street vendor just to get back to my hostel. That flimsy thing kept me totally dry for 3 days of rain, while my fancy $90 rain jacket soaked through at the shoulders and never dried out. Has anyone else had cheap gear totally beat their expensive stuff on a trip, or am I just unlucky with jackets?
That 5 euro umbrella I grabbed in Paris lasted me two whole trips and my $60 one broke the first time it got windy lol. Cheap stuff just hits different when you're stuck in the rain somewhere. Maybe they just make those things to survive one trip and that's all you need.
