Bought a $12 bus ticket in Lisbon and it saved my whole day

I was trying to walk everywhere to save cash, but my feet were killing me after two hours. Spent the money on a 24-hour Carris pass and ended up seeing three museums across town I would have missed. Anyone know other cities with cheap day passes like that?

Lisbon's buses are actually pretty hit or miss on timing. The real value of that pass is the trams and metro, especially the metro. It's fast and goes to all the major spots. The city isn't that small, so walking between neighborhoods like Belem and Alfama would take forever. The pass works because the metro system is simple and covers the tourist areas well. A good pass needs the right network to back it up.

Oh man, that's the best feeling! I did something similar in Berlin with their day ticket (it was like, 8 euros maybe?). You could just hop on any tram or bus and it felt so freeing. But it got me wondering, what makes a transit pass actually good? Like, is it just the price, or does the city layout itself matter? Like, was Lisbon easy to get around because everything was kinda close, or did the buses just run really well?
