Always thought hostels were the cheapest option until a guy in Bangkok broke it down for me
He showed me his spreadsheet - private rooms on booking sites were actually cheaper per night than hostel dorms when you factor in locker fees, breakfast costs, and having to buy earplugs every trip. Now I check both before booking anywhere, anyone else find this to be true in other cities?

Totally true in Japan too, private rooms win most of the time.

@lee.casey real estate over there is its own beast though. You don't really own the land underneath the building.
