A hostel worker in Bangkok showed me how to book buses for half price and it broke my brain
I was in Bangkok last month staying at a hostel near Khao San Road and I had booked all my onward travel through those tourist agency desks on the street. Paid about 900 baht for a bus to Chiang Mai. The guy working the hostel front desk saw my ticket and just shook his head. He pulled up his phone and showed me the same route on a Thai bus app for 480 baht. Same bus, same seats, just booked direct instead of through a middleman. He also told me those agency desks charge foreigners a markup because most people don't know the local booking sites exist. I tried it for my next three legs of the trip and saved around 1,800 baht total, which covered two nights of hostel. Now I always spend 10 minutes googling the local transport app before I book anything. Has anyone else found a specific country where the direct booking app saves a ton?
