Warning: the $1.25 store rice went moldy in 3 days and I almost fed it to my kids
Bought a 5 pound bag of rice from the dollar store near my place in Columbus to stretch our grocery budget, and it seemed fine when I cooked the first batch on a Sunday. By Wednesday the rest of the bag had this weird sour smell and tiny green spots near the seam, which never happens with the $4 bag I usually get at Kroger. I dumped it and checked the receipt, and the bag had no date stamp at all, just a smudged code I couldn't read. Turns out that store keeps pallets of rice right by the front window in direct sun, and I'm guessing that's why it turned so fast. Anyone else had cheap bulk rice go bad way quicker than the normal stuff, or did I just get a bad bag?
