Warning: I thought dried beans were a scam, then I did the math on a $1.29 bag
I always figured canned beans were worth the extra buck just for the time saved, so I never touched the dry ones sitting on the bottom shelf at my grocery store in Fresno. Last week I finally caved and bought a $1.29 bag of pinto beans, and it made about 12 cups once cooked, which is like 6 cans worth for a fraction of the price. I soaked them Saturday night and tossed them in the slow cooker Sunday with onion, cumin, and a scoop of bacon grease from my fridge jar. Now I have a freezer full of beans and I feel kind of silly about all those years of cans. What's your go-to way to season a big batch so it doesn't taste the same by day four?
