Unpopular opinion: meal prepping on Sunday is actually costing you more money
I used to spend every Sunday cooking 5 days worth of lunches and dinners... thought I was saving. But after 3 months of tracking my grocery receipts, I realized I was throwing out $25 a week in food I got tired of eating by Wednesday. Those bulk packs of chicken and veggies looked cheap up front, but half of them ended up in the trash. Has anyone else noticed their prepped meals going bad before you actually want to eat them?

My friend did the same thing for three months straight, turns out he was spending an extra $40 a week on those fancy glass meal prep containers he kept buying to replace the ones he left at work. It's like how we buy gym memberships in January but really just paying for the idea of being organized instead of actually saving anything.

But is he saving money overall compared to eating out? My wife and I spend about $60 a week on containers and bulk ingredients, but before we were easily dropping $200 or more on takeout. Even with the startup costs for the glass dishes and spices, we started breaking even around week five. The containers do get left at work sometimes, but I just grab them the next day, no need to buy new ones every time.
