Unpopular opinion: meal prep Sunday is a trap for most people

My buddy Chris told me he spends $40 a week just on containers that get tossed or lost, and it hit me that planning every single meal is just another chore. Has anyone else just stopped pretending they'll eat that Tuesday chicken on Friday?

I mean, how many of us are actually eating that Wednesday stir fry on Saturday like we planned? I feel like meal prep works great for people who don't mind eating the same thing five days in a row. But most of us get bored and end up ordering pizza halfway through the week anyway. Here's what I want to know though - are you actually saving money if you throw away half the food because you didn't want to eat it four days later? Because I've seen people's fridges full of sad containers of rice and chicken that they just ignore.

My neighbor Jenna bought a 12-pack of glass containers thinking she was gonna be that person. She meal prepped for 2 weeks straight, then around day 9 she just stared at her Wednesday salmon and started crying over her sink. Now she uses those containers to store screws and random craft supplies. She tells everyone meal prep is just a hobby for people who enjoy grocery shopping more than once a week. Did your friend Chris ever figure out what to do with the leftover containers or is his cabinet just a graveyard of lids without bottoms now?
