Spent 45 minutes trying to make a single can of beans stretch into three dinners before I figured out the trick.

I finally got it by adding a cup of cheap rice and a diced carrot to the pot, which took way longer to figure out than the actual cooking, so what's your go-to cheap filler ingredient?

Potatoes, obviously, but did you really need 45 minutes to figure out rice?

You think potatoes are the only cheap filler? What about lentils, they're even cheaper per pound and actually add protein. A bag of brown lentils costs nothing and you can stretch any soup or stew for days. They soak up flavor way better than plain rice too.
