Rant: That bulk rice at Costco had bugs after 3 weeks

I bought one of those 25 pound bags of jasmine rice from the Costco in Portland last month. Figured it was a steal for $12. Storage seemed fine in my pantry. Opened it up last Tuesday and saw little weevils crawling around the top layer. Had to toss the whole thing and scrub my cabinet with vinegar. Now I freeze all my grains for 48 hours before putting them away. Anyone else dealt with pantry bugs from bulk buys?

Oh man, that’s rough. Didn’t you think those big bags would be safer since they’re sealed? I had the same thing happen with a bag of oats from a different store last year. Little bugs showed up after a few weeks, and I had to throw out half my pantry because they got into everything. Now I swear by freezing any grains or flour for a couple days when I bring them home. It’s a pain, but it beats scrubbing cabinets with vinegar at midnight.

Same thing happened with my oats a while back, total nightmare. Freezing everything now, too.
