PSA: That blog about bulk rice deals was totally wrong about the price

I read a post last week claiming you could get a 50-pound bag of jasmine rice for $18 at the Asian market on Clark Street. Drove all the way there on Saturday and the real price was $32, plus it was in a dusty back corner and looked stale. The writer must have gotten the number from an old sign or something. Did anyone else find that blog post misleading or am I just unlucky with my market?

Did you actually check the date on that blog post? I ran into something similar last year with a post about the bulk cheese prices at the Italian deli on Western Avenue. The writer claimed provolone was $4 a pound but when I got there it was $7 and they had a sign up saying prices changed in January. I think what happens is these bloggers write up a bunch of posts at once and then never update them. So maybe that rice deal was legit back when gas was cheaper or something. Anyway I ended up buying a smaller bag of the jasmine rice anyway and it was actually fine after I rinsed it a few times.

You know Noah, I used to just assume those blog posts were current no matter what, but your provolone story actually makes me realize I've been way too trusting. I remember seeing a post about a discount on bulk quinoa at that health food store on 18th and getting there to find out the sale had ended three months prior. So yeah, you're right, I gotta start checking those dates before I plan my whole shopping trip around something like that.
