My rice cooker exploded beans all over the kitchen last night

I was making a big batch of pinto beans for the week in my $15 rice cooker from Target, and the lid popped off around 9pm, splattering everywhere. Turns out I overfilled it past the 4 cup line, which I should have known better since the manual says 3 cups max. I spent an hour scrubbing the counters and floor, then just made a simple veggie stir fry with the last of my frozen peppers to save the night. Anyone else ever had a cheap appliance fail on them, or am I just the unlucky one?

Whoa, okay, but nobody’s talking about the real danger here. You could have gotten seriously hurt when that lid popped, hot beans and steam everywhere. That’s not just a mess, that’s a burn risk, and I’ve seen people end up in urgent care over way less than that. So yeah, you overfilled it, that’s on you, but maybe the real lesson is that a $15 rice cooker just isn’t built for something like beans, even at the right line. I mean, rice is one thing, but beans foam and bubble up like crazy, so it’s kind of a design fail too if you ask me. At least you found out in the kitchen and not over a carpet or something.

Wait, the manual actually says 3 cups max and you poured in 4? That's not the rice cooker failing, that's you ignoring the one rule it gave you. My $12 cooker from the thrift store has a line for a reason, and I've learned that the hard way too, but I didn't blame the machine when I made instant oatmeal explode all over the microwave. You basically strapped a rocket to a can of beans and were surprised when it took off. The scrubbing sucks, I get it, but that stir fry probably tasted better than beans anyway.
