My neighbor told me to stop buying pre-shredded cheese
She said it's way cheaper to just buy blocks and shred it yourself, and I finally tried it last week... saved like $3 on a single bag of cheddar. Has anyone else noticed a big difference with other pre-prepped stuff like bagged salad or chopped veggies?

Pre-shredded cheese has anti-caking powder in it too, so block shreds melt better.

3-4 brands of pre-shredded cheese have potato starch listed as the first ingredient after cheese now. I checked the bags at my local Kroger last week and it's honestly kind of gross once you notice it. But honestly unless you're making something super fancy like a bechamel sauce does it really matter that much? My mac and cheese turns out fine with the pre-shredded stuff and I can't taste the difference. People act like it's a huge culinary sin but I got better things to worry about than cheese texture.
