My neighbor laughed at my $30 grocery haul and it made me rethink everything

I was bragging to Linda about getting 3 days of meals for $30 from the discount grocery downtown, but she pointed out I was buying pre-shredded cheese and bagged salad mix which costs way more than doing it yourself. She showed me her receipt where she got a block of cheddar and whole heads of lettuce for half the price of my stuff. Has anyone else realized they're paying a convenience tax on stuff they could just prep in 2 minutes?

Yeah exactly, that convenience tax adds up faster than people realize. I started grating my own cheese and chopping my own lettuce a few months back, and my grocery bill dropped noticeably without really changing what I cook. The prep time is barely a minute or two, so it's kind of wild how much we pay for someone else to do it for us.

More like a few minutes, but still worth it.
