My $20 rice cooker died after 4 months and I am so annoyed

I bought this cheap rice cooker from Target back in March cause my old one finally gave out. It worked great for like 3 months then last week it just started burning everything on the bottom. I tried rinsing the rice more and using less water but nope, still got that crunchy burnt layer. Ended up tossing it and now I'm back to using a pot on the stove which takes twice as long. Anyone else have luck with a really basic rice cooker that actually lasts?

Aren't they all kind of the same cheap mechanism inside? My last one did that too and I just bit the bullet on a $40 Zojirushi, it's been going strong for like three years now.

My friend's cheap one lasted exactly two weeks before it died.
