I switched from chicken thighs to drumsticks for my weekly meal prep and I am never going back
I do a big Sunday cook every week, usually 5 lunches and 4 dinners, and I had this habit of grabbing chicken thighs no matter what. Last month at the Kroger on Oak Ave, thighs were $2.99 a pound and drumsticks were $1.29 a pound, so I stood there doing math on my phone for way too long. I went with drumsticks and got 4 pounds for under 6 bucks, which made 6 meals once I pulled the meat off the bone. The meat was just as good in my rice bowls and the broth from the bones made a whole pot of soup I did not plan on. Only downside is picking around the bone takes me an extra 10 minutes on Sunday. Has anyone else made the switch, and do you just cook them whole or pull the meat first?
How long do you usually roast them to get the meat to pull off easy? I do whole drumsticks in the oven at 400 for about 35 minutes, then the meat slides right off and I skip most of the picking.
