I just threw out $40 worth of fancy spices I never used

For years, I thought having a full spice rack was the key to good cooking. I'd buy those little jars for $5 each, thinking 'this will make my cheap meals taste amazing.' I had smoked paprika, saffron threads, whole star anise, the works. They just sat there. I realized I was making the same five meals anyway, and my go-to cheap dinner, black bean soup, only needs cumin and chili powder. I finally cleared the cabinet yesterday. I'm sticking to the basics now. What's one kitchen item you bought that turned out to be a total waste of money for your budget cooking?

Honestly I saw a whole article about this, how people buy fancy kitchen stuff just for the idea of it. Tbh my big waste was one of those single serve smoothie blenders. Used it twice and the cleanup was more work than just making a regular smoothie. It felt so smart when I bought it though. Now it just collects dust next to my fancy garlic press I never touch.

My mandoline slicer was a huge waste. It promised perfect veggies but I'm too scared of losing a fingertip to ever use it. It just takes up a drawer now.
