I gave up on fancy grocery store broth and started making my own scrap bag version

For years I bought those cartons of vegetable broth for about $3 each, thinking it was the only way to get good flavor. My turning point was watching a friend just toss onion skins, carrot tops, and celery ends into a freezer bag. I tried it, simmering a full bag of scraps for an hour with some salt and pepper. The broth it made was just as good, maybe better, and basically free. I've saved about $15 a month since I started doing this three months ago. Has anyone else found a simple kitchen scrap that turned into a regular money saver?

I mean it's just broth, not like you're curing a disease.

Right? @jenkins.amy gets it. Made some last week and my roommate acted like I'd performed a miracle. It's just salty water with stuff in it.
