I finally caught why my rice was always mushy after 2 years of cooking

Was making a big batch of black beans and rice last Tuesday when I noticed the bag said 'rinse before cooking.' I've been skipping that step since I moved out at 19. No wonder all my cheap 5lb bags of rice turned into paste. Felt like an idiot standing there with a colander. Anyone else miss obvious stuff like this for way too long?

Man that’s too relatable, I bet your rice is perfect now though.

Not sure I buy that though. Perfect rice is kind of a myth if you ask me. Too many people chase some Instagram-worthy grain that falls apart the second you try to eat it with chopsticks. Most folks just end up with sticky mush or hard kernels, then pretend it's "perfect" because they don't want to admit they messed up again. Real perfect rice is when you don't even think about it, not when you're bragging about it online.
