Figured out my rice was mushy because I was washing it wrong

For like 2 years I kept making rice that turned into paste every time. I thought I just had a bad pot or something. Then my buddy from work looked at me while I was rinsing it and said "dude you gotta use cold water not hot." I was washing it under the faucet on hot the whole time. Anyone else learn a stupid simple fix way later than they should have?

And get this, my buddy had the exact opposite problem. He was always using cold water and couldn't figure out why his rice came out hard and crunchy every single time. Turns out his roommate had been secretly swapping the bags for instant rice because he couldn't stand the texture of regular rice anymore. For like a year he was making instant rice with the same method you'd use for normal long grain. He only figured it out when the roommate moved out and left a note. So yeah, you're not alone. We're all out here messing up rice in creative ways.

Oh man, that instant rice trick is just cruel! I can't believe his roommate did that for a whole year without saying anything. We really do all have our own special ways of messing up rice, it's kind of comforting honestly.
