Warning: spent 6 hours chasing a temp swing on my offset smoker

I got a new WSM clone last month and couldn't figure out why my temps were all over the place. Took me 6 hours across three weekends to realize the intake damper was bent from shipping. I swapped it with a $10 replacement from the hardware store and boom, steady 225 for 8 hours straight. Anyone else run into a dumb shipping damage issue that ate up your whole day?

Did you actually check for shipping damage when you first got it though? That's usually the first thing I look at before even lighting a fire.

And didn't you give it a good once-over before the first fire, just in case something rattled loose during shipping? That's basically free warranty insurance right there.
