That fancy $300 thermometer I bought gave me false readings for 6 months before I figured out it just needed a battery swap.
After 6 months of dry brisket I finally realized the temp was off by 20 degrees from day one, any of you ever had a pricey gadget let you down that bad?

Gonna push back on this one because that $300 thermometer probably worked fine out of the box and you just ignored the manual or never checked the battery light. Every high end gadget I've owned has a low battery indicator or at least a note in the instructions to swap batteries every few months. Sounds like you blamed the tool for user error, not a design flaw. Six months of dry brisket is on you for not verifying the temp with ice water or a second probe after the first week.
